Asteri is a daily practice — astrology, journaling, tarot, and mood, gathered in one place. That practice only works if you can be honest inside it, so we want to be just as honest about what information the app collects, how it’s used, and the choices you have. This policy covers the Asteri iOS app and the asteri.fyi website.
What we collect
Everything below is collected because a feature needs it — we don’t collect data speculatively, we don’t show ads, and we never sell your personal information.
- Account details. Your email address, a password (stored securely by our authentication provider, never readable by us), and the name you choose to go by.
- Birth details.Your birth date, birth time (or a note that it’s unknown), and birthplace — including the city, region, country, coordinates, and timezone we derive from it. This is the foundation of your natal chart, transits, and every personalized reading in the app.
- Your practice. Daily check-ins (moods and activities), written journal entries, voice journal recordings and their transcriptions, tarot pulls, intentions, reflections, and the insights the app builds from them.
- People you add. If you add friends or family as profiles, we store the name, relationship, birth details, and any notes you enter about them. Please only add information about people you have a genuine connection with — these profiles are private to you.
- Contacts, if you allow it. To help you find friends already on Asteri, the app reads your contacts on your device, converts phone numbers to irreversible cryptographic hashes, and matches only those hashes on our servers. Contact names and raw phone numbers never leave your device. If you choose to share your own phone number, we store it on your profile for the same matching purpose.
- Profile photo. If you set an avatar, we store the image you pick from your photo library.
- Purchases. Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store; we receive purchase status (not your payment details) via RevenueCat to unlock premium features.
- Usage and device data. We use Amplitude to understand how the app is used — events like completing a check-in or starting a streak, along with device type, operating system, and app version. If you enable notifications, we store your push token.
How we use your information
- To cast your natal chart and generate your daily readings, transits, tarot interpretations, and moon cycles.
- To find patterns between your moods and the sky — the correlations and insights that make the practice yours.
- To transcribe voice journals so they’re searchable and readable alongside written entries.
- To power friendships: matching contacts, generating synastry and friend readings, and showing your chart to friends you connect with.
- To send the notifications you’ve opted into, maintain your streaks, and manage your subscription.
- To understand aggregate usage, fix problems, and improve the app.
How AI is involved
Asteri’s readings and reflections are generated with the help of large language models from Anthropic and OpenAI. To personalize what you see, relevant pieces of your information — your chart, recent moods, journal excerpts, and a running summary the app maintains of your practice — are sent to these providers to generate your readings. Voice journal recordings are sent to OpenAI to be transcribed. These providers process your content to provide the service to us; we do not permit them to use it to train their models.
You stay in control of this:
- Keep an entry out of AI. Any journal entry can be excluded from AI processing — it stays in your journal but is never used to generate readings or summaries.
- Reset what Asteri knows. You can erase the summary the app has built about you at any time, and it will start fresh.
Who we share information with
We share personal information only with the services that run Asteri, and only what each one needs:
- Supabase — hosts our database, file storage, and authentication.
- Anthropic & OpenAI — generate readings, reflections, and transcriptions, as described above.
- Amplitude — product analytics.
- RevenueCat & Apple — subscription and purchase processing.
- Expo — delivers push notifications.
- OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) — when you type a birthplace, the search text is sent to this geocoding service to find the matching city and coordinates.
- Resend — sends transactional email, like verification codes and invitations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We may disclose information if required by law, or as part of a merger or acquisition — in which case this policy would continue to apply to it.
What other people can see
- Friendsyou’ve connected with can see your name, avatar, and birth chart, and the app generates shared readings (like synastry) between you.
- Anyone searching for friends by name can see your name, avatar, and sun, moon, and rising signs.
- Your journal is yours alone. Journal entries, voice recordings, moods, tarot pulls, and notes are never visible to other users.
- Share cards (like your Moon Wrap) are created on your device and only leave it if you choose to share them.
- Community patterns shown in the app are aggregated and only displayed when enough people are included that no individual can be identified.
Your choices and rights
- Edityour profile, birth details, and the profiles you’ve created, any time in the app.
- Notifications can be tuned or turned off in the app and in iOS settings.
- Permissions — contacts, microphone, photos, and notifications are each optional and can be revoked in iOS settings.
- Delete your account directly in the app (menu → Delete account) — deletion is immediate and permanent. See Delete Your Account for details, including what to do if you no longer have the app.
- Access, export, and correction. You can request a copy of your data or ask us to correct it by emailing privacy@asteri.fyi. We respond within 30 days.
If you live in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, these are your rights under the GDPR, along with the rights to restrict or object to processing and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. We process your data to provide the service you signed up for, with your consent where required, and under our legitimate interest in keeping Asteri working and improving. If you live in California, the CCPA gives you the rights to know, delete, and correct — and we don’t sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined there, and we don’t use sensitive personal information beyond what’s necessary to provide the service. We never discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is open, so your practice is there when you return. Journal entries you delete are removed from view immediately and purged from our systems thereafter. When you delete your account, your personal information is deleted, except for minimal records we’re legally required to keep (like purchase records) and anonymized usage statistics that no longer identify you.
Security
Your data is encrypted in transit, stored with per-user access controls, and voice recordings live in private storage only your account can reach. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your journal the way we’d want ours treated. If a breach ever affects your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.
Children
Asteri is not intended for children under 13 (or the higher age your country requires for consent, such as 16 in parts of the EU). We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children; if you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy in a meaningful way, we’ll update the date at the top and let you know in the app before the change takes effect.
